Thigh Lift
Thigh lift surgery is a standard surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of the thighs.
The surgery can be used to remove excess skin and fat from the thighs and tighten the tissues of the thigh area.
How do we do a Thigh Lift?
Patients can typically have a Thigh Lift performed and go home the same day.
Patients can have the procedure under general anaesthetic where they are put to sleep or with sedation.
The incision most commonly is from the groin along the inside of the thigh reaching the knee.
The wounds are closed with dissolving stitches and dressed to ensure the area is kept clean and dry.
Each patient is immediately placed into medical-grade compression garments to support the wounds postoperatively.
What kind of patients would benefit from Thigh Lift?
Thigh lift helps reshape thighs by removing excess fat and skin.
Most often anyone needing a thigh lift has undergone a body transformation by losing weight leading to loose skin around the thighs.
In other cases, patients tend to be older (50’s onwards) who have lost the elasticity of the skin and tend to have extra fat and skin.
What do we do before a Thigh Lift?
When patients come into the clinic, a UK trained plastic surgeon with expert knowledge make a full assessment.
The reasons sought for surgery are established and what they hope to achieve as a result of having a Thigh Lift.
The amount of skin and fat to be removed is assessed to help with surgical planning.
It is important for the patient to be appropriately counselled to understand the whole process including surgery and after surgery.
Patients are given at least 2 weeks to make a considered decision and only once both patient and surgeons are happy, does the patient proceed to surgery.
What do patients see after a Thigh Lift?
Patients are put in compression garments immediately after surgery to help support the wounds.
As soon as they are comfortable, patients will be able to notice the change in shape of the thighs. There will be some swelling but there should not be any pain.
Once ready, patients can go home with pre-booked follow up appointments.
Patients are seen in the clinic at 2 weeks to check the wounds by the surgeon who operated on them.
What are the alternatives to a Thigh Lift?
Measures such as wearing compression clothing work for smaller amounts of loose skin.
Non-surgical alternatives include using radiofrequency machines to encourage tightening of the skin but there tends to be limited or small up to moderate amounts of loose skin, especially for the thigh which has more fibrous tissue.
